The RBWH Foundation is the primary fund-raising body for the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. The tireless work of the staff and volunteers provides funding for research and support to patients and their families. Base was delighted to be able to assist the organisation and support their important work through the design and construction of their new home.
The design aims to provide a workplace that supports both the functional and aspirational needs of the organisation while showcasing their offering and integrating it into the hospital that their essential work supports. The layout and design features, along with the foundations dynamic branding draws people into reception and the front of house zones from the main hospital. Spaces are organised to optimise natural light and external connection. The aesthetic is light and appealing with a natural palette of oak, white and greenery with pops of colour to add interest to the space and reinforce the RBWH Foundation brand. Integrated planting further connects the user to nature and promotes wellness for the occupants of the space.
Timber batten features create texture and interest, and in some areas offer glimpses to the spaces beyond. Bespoke joinery provides thoughtful detail and optimises the functionality of the space. Texture and design details such as sheer curtains, feature lighting and carefully curated furnishings aim to help occupants feel connected to and comfortable within the space. As with the front of house areas, the work hub incorporates elements of the branding colours, further reinforcing the identity of the RBWH Foundation and energising the workspace. The resulting design is one that is as functional as it is beautiful and provides a worthy home to the inspirational people who occupy it.
